Summary:
The Shop Supervisor coordinates activities of workers engaged in assembling parts or assemblies into units while promoting a positive work environment. Their knowledge, skill, attendance, work ethic, attitude, and ability to lead must be something others admire and respect. All Supervisors must lead by example. This document is to lay out the expectations of Shop Supervisor, and their respective responsibilities.
Qualifications:
The list of qualifications below is required to be considered for the role of Shop Supervisor.
• Knowledge and experience of all machinery, tools, processes, and procedures in the area they are supervising.
• Has an excellent attendance record, is consistently at work and on time. Punctual for all meetings and appointments. Does not extend break times, or abuse restroom breaks.
• Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Demonstrated ability to read and interpret documents such as work orders, blueprints, shop drawings, and written instructions that determine the method and sequence of assembling parts.
• Demonstrate the ability to read a tape measure and be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
To perform this job successfully, you must have the ability to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The duties and responsibilities listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and physical ability required and will be monitored and reviewed by the Plant Manager during your probationary period, as well as annually. These duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• The promotion of safety in the workplace through good housekeeping, safety training, and communication. Monitor the use of safety equipment used, methods of handling, compiling, and storing material, storage area housekeeping, and maintain a constant alert for hazardous conditions. Ensure your team members are working safely and are wearing necessary PPE.
• Directly supervise employees in the shop. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, developing, motivating, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
• To be knowledgeable of Company policies and procedures. To administer same on a fair and equal basis across the workforce. To manage, direct and discipline subordinates in an appropriate and respectful tone, manner, and demeanor.
• Study production schedules and estimate worker hour requirements for completion of job assignment.
• Establish or adjust work procedures to meet production schedules.
• Have the ability to effectively adapt to changes in daily production goals and be able to handle frequent or unexpected requests such as rush orders or cancellations.
• Promote cross training to have the flexibility to move personnel at will to ensure completion of daily work.
• Anticipate obstacles and act mindfully to mitigate them.
• Promote two-way communication by keeping employees informed and soliciting their comments and suggestions. Ensure an open line of communication so subordinates understand how their job affects others both upstream and downstream. Engage employees to think and act beyond their immediate job function.
• Inspect products to verify conformance to specifications and direct setup and adjustments of machines.
• Interpret specifications, blueprints, and job orders to workers, and assign duties.
• Recommend measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product. Suggest changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of shop, department, or work crew.
• Analyze and resolve work problems and assist workers in solving work problems.
• Maintain time and production records.
• Estimate, requisition, and inspect materials.
• Work well with other supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments.
• Coordinate with others with the setting up of machines and equipment as well as report machine and equipment malfunctions to maintenance personnel.
• Perform activities of workers supervised when required.
• Required to work the second shift and back up the Night Shop Supervisor as needed or directed.

• Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, speak, and hear.
• Routinely lift and/or move up to 50 pounds unassisted, and occasionally move up to 100 pounds with the assistance of others.
• Vision- Ability to use close vision and have adequate depth perception.
• Ability to work with and around moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is below OSHA limits, and is monitored every two years, or whenever a change in work atmosphere requires it.
