KTVQ, the E.W. Scripps CBS station based in Billings, Montana, is seeking an experienced leader and broadcast journalist to join our news team as Assistant News Director. As the Assistant News Director, you will play a vital role in managing the daily coverage and operations of our news team. We require a hands-on leader who will roll up their sleeves to get the job done, highly organized with the ability to successfully multi-task. You will be responsible for consistently executing winning strategies while fostering creativity and coaching the team for growth and development.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
Assist news director with supervisory responsibility for all news broadcasts and online content.
Hiring and conduct performance management of direct reports.
Assist news director in the on-going evaluation of personnel.
Create tactics and strategies to increase demos performance in key target areas for multiple platforms.
Implement and have working knowledge of federal, state and local laws impacting operations.
Ability to manage cross platform content creation and distribution.
Write copy and edit scripts for air and web.
Knowledge of and proficiency in posting content to station websites.
Schedule anchors and multi-media journalists.
Lead coverage planning of major events, i. e. elections, special events.
Proactively communicate news initiatives across departments.
Evaluate workflow efficiencies.
Assist news director in managing the budgetary aspects of newsroom operations.
Perform other duties as assigned.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
BS/BA in related discipline or equivalent years of experience preferred
Generally, 5+ years of experience in related field preferred
Prior managerial experience preferred
Social media and digital experience preferred
WHAT YOU'LL BRING:
Advanced oral and written communication skills
Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Office
Broad understanding of newsroom operations and equipment
Proven ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast paced environment
Flexible work hours required, including holidays, weekends, evenings and possible overtime hours
