Summary/Objective Provides comprehensive management for the custodial staff, including responsibility for custodial maintenance of all buildings, personnel management, the scheduling of custodial maintenance for special events, and to collaboratively work with all University units to provide an aesthetically pleasing, comfortable, and safe environment for students, faculty, and staff. Essential Job Duties Develops and maintains a cost effective custodial department through the hiring, training, evaluation, and supervision of department employees. Develops and maintains a cost-effective custodial supply inventory by evaluating custodial items on a regular basis and maintaining inventory control. Maintains and coordinates the completion of work order requests from students, faculty, and staff by utilizing the electronic work order management system. Maintain a comprehensive safety program. Manages and directs seasonal and student employees. Develop relationships with internal and external constituents with special attention to campus directors, Academics, Residence Life, Athletics, and Conference Center. Communicate with persons of various backgrounds professionally and in a courteous manner. Attends professional development seminars and/or classes periodically that pertain to the area of responsibilities (including essential functions) of this position. Assigns the student employees within the custodial department. Maintain documentation of employee performance and behavior. Inspect areas to ensure that standards of cleanliness are being met. Maintain current MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets) for chemicals used and stored in the custodial inventory. Responsible for custodial staffs time sheets. Regular attendance and punctuality. Set an example of a Christian lifestyle for students, faculty, and staff. Commitment and adherence to Southwest Baptist Universitys Principles and Expectations. Perform other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibility Housekeeping Staff Student Employees Position Requirements Required High school diploma or GED and at least three years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Three or more years of supervisor experience. Knowledge of custodial practices in an educational setting. Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments. Ability to foster a cooperative work environment. Ability to identify and implement creative solutions to complex problems. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Availability on an on-call basis for emergencies after hours. Preferred Bachelors Degree in an appropriate, related discipline. Supervisory experience in a higher education setting. Professional certifications related to custodial services. Work Environment Ability to work in various environments including typical office environments, outdoor environments with adverse weather conditions and construction/renovation sites. Regularly exposed to chemicals, dust, odors, oil, fumes, vibration, and noise. May be required to work on and/or around slippery surfaces both indoors and out. Subject to working near machinery, power tools, and vehicles in motion. On occasion, may be exposed to confined spaces and to access other related physical plant areas. Physical Abilities Regularly required to sit, walk, talk and hear. Visual ability needed to inspect work, view computer monitor, and read MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets). Must be able to lift, carry, push or pull a variety of tools, equipment, and materials up to 50lbs. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle and get in and out of the vehicle frequently during each work day.
