Additional Posting Information
Additional Job Posting Information / Notes to Applicant:
The position is critical to the operations of the office of the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs (ADAA). All academic operations at the Law Center are led and coordinated by the ADAA, a tenured full professor at the Law Center. The Law Center's bylaws specify a Dean and an ADAA, thus the ADAA acts in a "second in command" role. The Law Center does not have academic departments such as other academic units (e.g., engineering - with Electrical and Mechanical as separate academic departments). Most of the department chair activities at the Law Center are discharged by the ADAA.
The ADoffice has two full-time staff positions, characterized as the primary and secondary persons for the office. Each has managerial aspects to their role, although the primary manager has the secondary position as a direct report, along with a group of faculty assistants as direct reports. Each position is involved with managing other non-benefits, part-time resources such as student workers or any other ADoffice staff in that category. Each position assists with managing the large group of non-benefits, part-time adjunct instructors used by the Law Center.
The two ADoffice positions collaborate on every aspect of operating the ADAA office, high and low, strategic and tactical, internal and external. It is envisioned that the secondary position is involved in much of what is assigned for the primary position. The secondary position will be involved in implementing many of the activities of the primary position, either as a co-implementor, or as a backup resource for implementation.
The position's responsibilities flow from the ADAA office operations, which are as follows for major areas of activity:
Fiscal and budgetary oversight.
Course scheduling and resourcing.
Adjunct and other instructors both as to appointments to teach and fiscal arrangements to work with the Law Center's financial departments for payment and compliance.
Data sets for internal use as well as national surveys and accreditation inquiries.
Interfacing and configuring UH systems related to academic operations, such as the student evaluation system or learning management systems.
Keeping information on web pages current, such as faculty listings.
In addition to these AD office responsibilities, a part of the position's time is dedicated to operating the ADAA's executive calendar and meeting/appointments process.
Interested candidates should have strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
The position prefers a formal four-year degree. Additional education will be accepted in lieu of experience.
This search is coordinated by the ADAA office. In addition to the formal application made in response to this posting, applicants should send a short email to Fariba Pouraryan (adlaw@uh.edu) expressing interest in the position with a resume or curriculum vitae attached.
All positions at the University of Houston-System are security sensitive and will require a criminal history check.
The University of Houston System and its universities are an Equal Opportunity Institution.
