Position Summary This position is a key contributor to the organization's financial health, responsible for maintaining accuracy, integrity, and efficiency of financial operations and reporting. The role encompasses a wide range of financial and accounting responsibilities and demands a proactive, detail-oriented individual with strong analytical acumen and a deep understanding of accounting principles. The Senior Accountant works collaboratively with both internal and external stakeholders, including finance and accounting colleagues, cross-functional staff teams, and third-party partners, to ensure accurate financial management and reporting across the organization. Responsibilities General Ledger Accounting o Prepare, analyze, and post recurring and non-recurring journal entries to the general ledger, ensuring accuracy and completeness.o Conduct monthly, quarterly, and ad-hoc account reconciliations to ensure the integrity of balance sheet accounts and maintain supporting documentation.o Maintain detailed fixed asset, depreciation, and amortization schedules.o Ensure timely preparation and maintenance of annual audit schedules.o Maintain ledgers and accounts, including limited partnership financials, with a particular focus on reconciling and tracking intercompany and third-party payables and receivables. Housing Development Accounting o Maintain ledgers and accounts related to all predevelopment and construction projects.o Prepare, record, and reconcile monthly developer fee accruals.o Review monthly project draws and maintain all related documentation.o Perform monthly and annual reconciliations for all housing development-related accounts.o Support accurate and timely bank reconciliations for all construction-related accounts.o Coordinate closely with Housing Development staff to ensure alignment on invoicing, draw requests, project cost tracking, and reconciliations.
Audit and Tax Accounting o Assist in the successful execution of year-end closing procedures.o Prepare, distribute, and monitor annual invoicing and accruals.o Serve as the primary liaison with the CPA firm, coordinating annual property audits, tax filings, and the timely exchange of financial information.o Process and track quarterly and annual tax payments for the organization and related entities.o Review and maintain annual audit and tax filing documentation to ensure compliance, accuracy, and completeness.
Collaboration and Team Support o Act as the lead accounting contact for Property Management and external partners, ensuring effective communication and timely exchange of financial data.o Provide cross-training and backup support to other Finance Team members as needed.o Participate actively in team, cross-departmental, and all-staff meetings by sharing relevant financial updates, reporting, and insights. Other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities for this position include: o Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience in general ledger accounting.o Advanced knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).o Demonstrated ability to think independently, exercise sound judgment, and resolve complex accounting issues.o Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with a high level of expertise in Excel.o Strong analytical skills with the ability to work independently.o Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality.o Highly detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.o Ability to work collaboratively and manage tasks with a high level of complexity.o Exemplary personal and professional integrity; must pass a criminal background check.o Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.o Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Preferred skills and knowledge: o Bachelor's degree in Accounting or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.o Experience in real estate, property management, or housing development accounting.o Familiarity with accounting software platforms such as MIP, Yardi, or ResMan, or other fund accounting systems.o Education or work experience in nonprofit accounting or fund accounting principles.o Experience using paperless documentation and workflow systems.
