Arthrex is actively searching for a Metrology Applications Specialist II for our Manufacturing site in Ave Maria, FL. The Metrologist Applications Specialist II leads the introduction of new Metrology equipment applications and systems programming to support manufacturing, such as CT scanners, CMMs, and Vision systems. Manages high-level projects, develops Arthrex global Metrology standards, researches and develops inspection methods, provides high-level support, and mentors Metrologists.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the introduction of new inspection equipment technology projects like (CT scanners, Vision systems, and contact/non-contact inspection systems).
  • Develop inspection strategies and new inspection techniques for new Metrology equipment introductions to meet manufacturing needs
  • Provides technical support for project planning, development, installation, validation, and modification of inspection equipment.
  • Development of validation requirements (URS/FRS) in conjunction with validation Engineering for Metrology inspection equipment platforms.
  • Writing of work instructions for inspection techniques relating to standard platforms for Training Metrology and QA team
  • Applies advanced knowledge of GD&T and Metrology principles to program coordinate Metrology systems to ensure products meet specifications and drawings.
  • Participate in design Review meetings for new product introductions and Quality plan approvals
  • Collaborate with the supplier quality team, Design Quality engineering team, and Design engineering team to ensure the product drawings meet design to manufacturing and inspection requirements
  • Conduct Training and mentoring in Metrology applications programming and GD&T for Metrology team members and the operations team as needed and resolve issues and questions from the machine operators and Quality and Manufacturing Engineers as needed.
  • Strategize, correlate, and resolve inspection methods between Arthrex suppliers and multiple sites.
  • Lead multi-site projects and represent Metrology function- programming strategy, G D & T strategy, software upgrades, and other applicable electronic and data collection systems
  • Develop Measurement strategy and standards for features per ASME Y14.5 G D & T
  • Lead action plans for CAPA related to Calibration/Metrology.
  • Evaluate calibration frequencies, gauge life, and fit for purpose on inspection equipment.
  • Work with Manufacturing Engineers on special projects related to Metrology Programming needs.
  • Identifies and drives cost reduction projects utilizing the Lean Manufacturing principle.
  • Maintains compliance and executes all internal policies, procedures, and all related paperwork under ISO/FDA guidelines.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree required in Science, Technology or Engineering required
  • 2 years minimum experience required for Coordinate Metrology applications and systems Programming
  • 2 years of experience required with applying geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, principles to program Metrology software and applications
  • 2 years in CT scanner programming preferred
  • 2 years of experience in CMM programming preferred
  • 2 years minimum experience managing high-level projects
  • ASME Y14.5 G D & T Certification preferred

Knowledge and Skill Requirements/Specialized Courses and/or Training:

Mechanical Aptitude. Full working knowledge of machining properties of common metals and alloys. Good mechanical aptitude. Ability to read blueprints. General knowledge of drafting concepts.

Machine, Tools, and/or Equipment Skills:

Zeiss CMM, CT Scanner, and vision system programming skills.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with abstract and concrete variables.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to comprehend and apply mathematical principles to the degree required to perform the job based upon job requirements.

Language and Communication Skills:

Strong ability to comprehend and apply language skills to the degree required to perform the job based upon the job requirements listed above. Ability to communicate ideas and issues effectively verbally to other team members and management. Ability to write and record data and information as required by procedures.
