MQ: Education: Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed. Experience: Requires a minimum of seven (7) years of directly job-related experience. Certification/Licensing: None.
Department is willing to accept education in lieu of experience and experience in lieu of education.

(BAI) Executive Director at the University of Houston Law Center to direct and administer advocacy courses, training programs and other student activities and events associated with BAI and affiliated or adjacent programs assigned to the position. The position works directly with law students, adjunct professors and others to implement BAI's and the Law Center's advocacy initiatives and increase BAI's connection with the wider legal community.
Given the position's direct interactions with law students, a Juris Doctorate and bar licensure (any state) are required.
The position's primary responsibilities are as follows:
Advise and mentor students on advocacy training, competition opportunities, and professional development.
Assist the Executive Director in managing BAI's advocacy courses and experiential training programs, which includes but is not limited to scheduling and monitoring all courses offered by BAI; identifying BAI curriculum needs; recruiting, onboarding and training adjunct faculty; monitoring course effectiveness; etc.
Collaborate with other Law Center leaders such as the Law Center Dean, faculty, staff and other Law Center departments to implement BAI strategic plans and advocacy initiatives.
With BAI staff and competition team directors and coaches, provide guidance and manage student involvement in domestic and international interscholastic advocacy competitions that coincide with the mission of BAI and the Law Center; also act as advisor and mentor to student advocacy organization group(s)/board(s) and student competition directors.
Collaborate with the Executive Director on budget management, strategic planning and compliance with institutional policies.
With the Executive Director and BAI staff, oversee planning, logistics and implementation of national advocacy competitions, annual awards banquet and other special events and advocacy programs.
Assist with marketing, fundraising efforts and networking with alumni, attorneys, judges and legal and advocacy organizations to enhance BAI's visibility and impact within the legal community.
Prepare and publish moot court program rankings.
Perform other job-related duties as required.

Given that this position has a focus on co-managing an organization within the Law Center focused on academic and professional training and instruction in the lawyering skill of advocacy, prior experience gained in a law firm, JD preferred position, or other legal position doing any of the following activities will be considered as job-related experience:
Training, assisting, advising, supervising and mentoring junior attorneys or law students;
Preparing, hosting and/or delivering trainings and presentations for law students, junior attorneys or other legal organizations and groups;
Delivering or assisting with law student and/or junior attorney mentoring, networking and recruiting events;
Teaching as an adjunct professor at a law school;
Advising law students and/or junior attorneys in any capacity;
Preparing and/or delivering legal seminars, workshops and/or skill-building exercises;
Coaching and/or judging student teams competing in legal competitions; and
Assisting with onboarding and orientation of new hires.
Interested candidates should have strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
