Engineer-Flow Assurance, Sr. (Finance)
JOB DESCRIPTION
Primary purpose:
The primary purpose of this position is to perform advanced hydraulic/ flow assurance simulation for both Decarbonization/ clean energy surface facilities and pipeline. The successful candidate will be working in the Project Management Engineering team, which provides engineering expertise in the area of Decarbonization/ clean energy pipeline simulation, flow assurance and fluid property calculation for new pipeline and facility systems. Studies will be performed on prospects to develop the CO 2 potential and economics of development which requires close cooperation with facility and pipeline operations and engineering so that costs are generated which allow for economic production.
As a member of the Project Management Engineering team, this position is responsible for technically evaluating the Decarbonization/ clean energy pipeline systems design included CO 2 , NH 3 , and H 2 pipeline systems from a hydraulic/ flow assurance standpoint utilizing industry standard software such as SPS, NextGen, OLGA Transient, MULTIFLASH, and PIPESIM software. This position also will be responsible for advanced CO 2 multi-phase flow hydraulic modeling including surge analysis (relief systems and valve timing), capacity optimization and commercial/business development scenario modeling.
Additionally, this role will assist and mentor other flow assurance/ hydraulic engineers within the group in the areas of peer review, modeling (CO 2 , NH 3 , and H 2 ), and other engineering functions as identified. There will be frequent interaction with commercial/business development teams to evaluate potential expansion and/or acquisition opportunities which will require an ability to deliver, and clearly communicate, any technical analysis in a professional and timely manner, often on a short timeline.Minimum requirements:
Education:
- Master's or bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, Petroleum, or Chemical).
- A minimum of 10 years of related pipeline experience with Master degree or 15 years experience with Bachelor degree.
- Hands on experience of Well modeling, Well start-up, hydrate management study, corrosion study, pipeline slugging & mitigation methods, pipeline transient operations like Pigging, turndown, ramp up, blowdown, start-up & shutdown analysis using OLGA
- Must possess a subject matter expert level of knowledge and application steady-state and transient hydraulic/ flow assurance software.
- Experience in pipeline and facilities engineering evaluations such as hydraulic modeling, flow assurance, pump and compressor performance test and integrated field optimization.
- Knowledge in hydraulics, automation, leak detection technologies, modeling, statistical analysis, measurement/instrumentation, and SCADA and how to configure, tune and maintain advanced leak detection systems in a dynamic Control Center environment.
- Recognized industry technical expert in hydraulic simulations and design.
- Possesses a thorough knowledge of general Engineering principles and theories.
- Ability to work in a regulated environment that may include handling sensitive company and customer information.
- Ability to communicate with management, peers, and across disciplines and companies.
- In-depth knowledge fluid properties, thermal-fluid dynamics and flow assurance.
- Familiar with DOT, EPA, OSHA, and other applicable pipeline safety and environmental regulations.
- Advanced proficiency in MS Office applications that may include but are not limited to Excel, Word, SharePoint, PowerPoint, and Outlook

Above the minimum requirements, not required but advantageous in this position:
- Ph.D. or Master's degree in engineering.
- Professional Engineering license.
- Prior experience with CO2 Pipeline and Sequestration operation and design
- Knowledge of pipeline and facilities advanced hydraulic modeling for both single phase and multiphase flow using industry standard software.
- Familiar with physical and thermodynamic properties Mixture fluid.
- Prior experience working with pipeline hydraulic simulation software such as, OLGA Transient, Pipesim, SPS, NextGen, PETEX product software (GAP, Prosper, MBAL, Resolve), MultiFlash, LedaFlow and Hysys
- Specific knowledge related to the design and installation of pipeline facilities.
- Experience and knowledge with compressor/pump station and pipeline design.
- Advanced computer skills.
- Knowledge and/or application experience with industry standards (DOT 49CFR192, and 195, API, ASME, ANSI, NACE, NEC, etc.).

Compensation
The salary for this role is $140,000-$192,000/yr.Essential duties and responsibilities
- Perform steady state and transient simulations for single and multiphase flow using industry standard software and prepare technical reports for Surface facility systems and pipelines.
- Perform steady state and transient Integrated modeling for CO2 Sequestration Fields
- Strong technical understanding of core flow assurance and or process/pipeline simulation technology
- Perform surge analysis on proposed pipelines to determine if surge relief systems are adequate for projected operational needs and identify solutions to address any potential insufficiencies.
- Provides expert consultation in areas of design, development, and implementation of hydraulic analysis and surge analysis for liquids pipelines, pumps, and compressors.
- Provides consultation and project support for hydraulic applications and real-time computer-based computational monitoring.
- Evaluates model performance against actual pipeline performance to identify and execute improvement opportunities.
- Perform feasibility study for all single/ multiphase flow, fluid properties, and flow assurance R&D projects.
- Review hydraulic and flow assurance design basis, project execution plans, and specifications.
- Train pipeline controllers to better understand hydraulics and operational issues.
- Evaluates pipeline performance opportunities for the control center (hydraulic analysis, etc.) and provides input into operational philosophies/improvements.
- Assist Commercial/Business development by modeling potential acquisition and/or expansion projects to help them better understand the hydraulic limitations and/or design needs.
- Coordinates efforts at all levels with other departments.
- Demonstrates leadership in work groups through knowledge of hydraulic analysis and design.
- Interfaces with other engineers and disciplines to review and verify designs.
- Work with management team to discuss the technical challenges involved with all business development activities.
- Provided continuous and clear updates for technical works which helps management to set or calibrate the technical objectives.
- Assist Leak Detection Engineer as needed to align hydraulic models used for RTTM/CPM leak detection and transient hydraulic models.
- Support Field Engineering teams regarding surge relief design/settings and automated shutdown logic.
- Support Automation teams regarding valve timing and automated shutdown/slowdown logic.
- Assist Integrity Engineering teams with ILI tool runs and any potential pressure reductions as it relates to throughput impacts.
- Participate in front-end hydraulic/ flow assurance analysis for all projects.
- Assists operations engineers/system design engineers via peer review for various modeling efforts.
- Provide support for Pre- FEED, FEED studies and HAZOP and HAZID reviews.
- Participates in incident investigations.
- Participates in the Management of Change (MOC) process and documents Best Practices.
- Ability to communicate technical information in a manner that can be understood by non-technical personnel and high-level management.
