Power Electronics Engineer (Engineering)
What you will do
The Power Electronics Design Engineer is a design and development role within the Advanced Battery Core Electronics Team that reports directly to the Global Electronics Engineering Manager. This important role provides technical solutions within in a team environment to design and develop power electronic circuits and components as part of the Battery Management System (BMS) that goes into Clarios' new generation of lithium-ion batteries. The electronic BMS is critical to the performance and safety of the battery. As a member of this
team, you will be exposed to the latest in BMS technology and contribute to developing “best-in-class” electronic battery controls.
How will you do it
As a Power Electronics Design Engineer, you will leverage your power electronics knowledge and experience to create innovative and cost-effective solutions from prototype to production. You employ your knowledge to bring a design through the entire product development cycle from requirements definition to design and analysis to test and validation. You utilize your analytical and methodical problem-solving skills to address complex problems. You understand that collaboration and communication drives improvement, best practice, and helps to eliminate roadblocks. Your knowledge of design and analysis tools supports accuracy and efficiency in your daily work and enables you to strengthen the team by working with other engineers.
• Perform power circuit and component design
• Develop new highly efficient architectures/technologies meeting requirements that will improve performance, safety, and reliability
• Create schematic and PCB design in Altium Designer
• Develop buck / boost bi-directional DCDC electrical architecture and detailed circuit design. Perform circuit analysis/simulation, including power analysis using industry accepted tools
• Component selection for DCDC controllers, inductors, capacitors, MOSFETS, gate drivers, busbars, input filter, and power connections
• Perform input filter, power supply, solid state and electro-mechanical relay, and busbar design and analysis
• Design for thermal and EMC management to satisfy requirements compliance
• Prepare and review detailed documentation for product design such as: DFMEA, test plans, test procedures, and test reports
• Execute high current / power testing and characterization
• Develop and execute engineering verification and validation test plans and reports
• Identify root-cause of potential issues and make design recommendations to meet the highest level of reliability and performance
• Support other engineering functions for successful integration of power electronics into battery systems and ultra capacitor manufacturing processes
• Hardware design process development for certification in automotive energy safety systems
• Develop and maintain prototype and testing lab equipment used in power / high current testing
• Work with multidisciplinary team of software, mechanical, system, test, safety, and production engineers to develop a successful product.
• Follow program timing and deliver results according to plan
What we look for:
Required:
• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering
• 5+ years of professional experience in circuit level power electronics design and development
• Proficient with Altium Designer and simulation tools
• Experience in taking power electronics from concept to production
• Experience with isolated and non-isolated circuit topologies and control techniques.
Experience with soft-switching and resonant topologies
Preferred:
• Master of Science in power electronics
• Magnetic component design experience
• Experience with automotive product development and qualification
• Experience with EMI noise mitigation
• Experience with GAN and SiC power components and high precision analog design
