Job Summary: We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Refrigeration Manager to join our team at Sustainable Beef. In this role, you will oversee the operation and maintenance of large-scale ammonia refrigeration systems, boiler/steam generation systems, and plant utilities, ensuring that all systems operate safely and efficiently to support production goals. Your leadership will play a critical role in developing and implementing Process Safety Management (PSM) programs, managing environmental permitting, and fostering a safe work environment for team members. As a key leader, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure maintenance activities align with operational priorities, project requirements, and compliance standards. Key Responsibilities: Oversee the daily operation, preventive maintenance, and repairs of ammonia refrigeration systems, boilers, and plant utilities. Manage troubleshooting efforts for complex issues related to refrigeration, hydraulic, and electrical systems. Ensure compliance with OSHA standards and environmental regulations for refrigerants, including proper documentation and disposal. Lead significant capital reinvestment projects to upgrade refrigeration and boiler systems. Develop and implement PSM programs for ammonia refrigeration, adhering to OSHA regulations and best practices. Maintain PSM documentation, including operating procedures, training programs, and emergency response protocols. Conduct regular PSM audits and mechanical integrity checks to identify and mitigate risks in the refrigeration system. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations, including air quality permits and water discharge permits. Manage documentation and reporting for environmental compliance, including hazardous materials and emissions. Collaborate with regulatory agencies to maintain updated permits and adapt to changing environmental requirements. Lead, train, and develop a team of supervisors and technicians to ensure safe and efficient operations. Oversee scheduling, clocking reports, and attendance for team members, ensuring operational coverage. Provide ongoing feedback, professional development opportunities, and support for career advancement within the team. Manage the repair and maintenance budget for the refrigeration and boiler systems, monitoring costs and identifying efficiencies. Collaborate on project scopes, budgets, and schedules for new equipment installations or upgrades. Handle other responsibilities as assigned across all shifts to support continuous operation. Act as an on-call resource for emergency troubleshooting and repairs, with a commitment to maintaining facility uptime and safety. Qualifications: Bachelors degree or equivalent work experience. 510 years of experience in ammonia refrigeration, boiler maintenance, and plant utilities management, with strong leadership abilities. Prior experience in the meat processing or food industry is highly preferred. Formal ammonia refrigeration training and HAZWOPER certification are a plus. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). 5 years of supervisory experience. Familiarity with maintenance management software. Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with team members, management, and regulatory auditors. Ability to foster a collaborative team environment and motivate employees. Participate in training programs to improve skills. Follow all company policies and procedures. Functional Requirements: Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment with exposure to noise, temperature variations, and physical hazards. Must be able to stand or walk for extended periods, including during equipment inspections and repairs. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly. Capable of working in elevated areas, including catwalks or ladders, as necessary to maintain equipment. Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends or on-call availability, depending on production needs.
